What Does CBD Feel Like?

The creature thunders into his kitchen. With bouts of uncontrollable laughter, he scours the cupboards with scarlet eyes looking for any chips that he may devour upon . . .

We are all familiar with the classic effects of marijuana. But what if someone handed you a cannabis product, only this time it’s CBD derived hemp, not marijuana? Would you know how it would make you feel?

Marijuana produces euphoric effects — that some of us may know a little too well — because it contains tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). However, unlike marijuana, hemp plants really don’t have a lot of THC due to them originating from a different continent.

However, while lacking that bliss molecule, hemp still contains hundreds of chemicals compounds very similar to it like CBD. Only they don’t have psychoactive properties like THC. The reason for this is simple, they don’t have the ability to bind to CB1 receptors in our body, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t beneficial. In fact, as you are about to see, they can have quite an effect on our health. But this brings up a matter we need to be aware of.

Which CBD Is Right For You?

You always hear about THC vs. CBD, however, when we mention CBD, we usually aren’t talking about the single cannabinoid, cannabidiol. Instead, we are talking about CBD oil — which is hemp in its entirety. This means it contains hundreds of different cannabinoids and other compounds  — all with their own beneficial effects.

We didn’t understand how important they were to CBD oil until we isolated CBD and found out that it didn’t work as well for the majority of people.

You can still buy CBD isolate as it works better for a rare few. But if you’re trying to determine which version to buy first, check out full spectrum or whole plant CBD extract.

Peace of Mind and Relaxation

For the most part, cannabinoids in cannabis promote each other’s abilities. For example, the single compound version of CBD has a difficult time passing through the blood-brain barrier limiting absorption. However, cannabinoids like CBC, have properties that make it easy for CBD to pass through.

Sometimes they don’t always get along though. Marijuana can make some people paranoid while others at ease. This is because THC and CBD are dueling it out. By binding to CB1 receptors, THC can influence and heighten our perception of anxiety.

CBD, on the other hand, triggers CB2 and 5-HT1A receptors which lowers hypersensitivity to anxiety without causing a high.

Improves Appetite and Reduces Nausea

Unlike marijuana, CBD oil isn’t going to be giving you the munchies anytime soon. But for many, this is great, because instead, CBD helps regulate appetite.

However, if your appetite is lacking, CBD still has ways it can indirectly improve it.

CBD can greatly reduce upset stomach and nausea which are often culprits for low appetite. Especially when going through chemotherapy or another conventional cancer treatment. Now, if you’re comfortable using marijuana and going through cancer treatment, you may want THC for direct appetite stimulation.

Targets Pain and Lower Inflammation

While it causes a high, THC is more potent than other cannabinoids in many areas — such as having better pain reduction abilities. However, don’t go running for the sticky-icky just yet.

If there is one area where CBD kicks THC butt, it’s its positive role within the immune system and its regulation of the inflammatory process. While THC can better hide pain, CBD can target the source of it — whether the source is nociceptive pain or neuropathic pain.

The Biggest Thing You Feel With CBD

Nothing! OK, that’s not 100% correct. It’s true that CBD’s effects are not tangible in the sense you can feel them. Think of it like taking an over-the-counter medication like Ibuprofen.

With CBD you notice an absence of pain, stress, and other nasties that prevent you from feeling normal. Many of the medical effects of marijuana will still be present with CBD oil, especially effects such as reduced inflammation.

Now, that’s not to say CBD oil will improve your mood like marijuana or help you sleep like it. While they both make you feel better or sleep better, marijuana does this by producing a euphoria. CBD, on the other hand, improves your mood by lowering stress, anxiety, inflammation, discomfort, etc. In turn, you end up sleeping better, then feel more relaxed and energized in the morning.

It should be noted that CBD has biphasic effects on wakefulness and can make you tired. However, you have to take a large dose — 100 mg vs. the common 15-30 mg.

CBD oil helps you feel as you should by reliving issues that prevent you from feeling 100% you. And this all makes sense! Because CBD interacts with an internal regulatory system that promotes stability over other internal functions. This system is called the endocannabinoid system. And by creating its own cannabinoids — just like the ones in cannabis — it’s been helping organisms stay healthy for millions of years.
